भारत ने अपनी पहली इंटर कॉन्टिनेंटल बैलिस्टिक मिसाइल अग्नि-5 का सफल परीक्षण कर लिया है। 5500-5800 किमी रेंज वाली यह मिसाइल मल्टिपल इंडिपेंडेंटली टार्गेटेबल री-एंट्री व्हीकल यानी mirv टेक्नोलॉजी से लैस है। यानी इसे एक साथ कई टारगेट्स पर लॉन्च किया जा सकता है। अग्नि-5 एक एडवांस्ड MIRV मिसाइल है। ट्रेडिशनल मिसाइल में केवल एक वॉरहेड ले जाया जा सकता है, जिसे एयर डिफेंस सिस्टम काफी आराम से डिटेक्ट कर सकता है।
